December meeting, 2019

The Black Canyon Macintosh User Group meets on the second Thursday of the month, which this month is December 12th, at 7 p.m. Starting last month, we have a new meeting location! We'll be meeting in the Colorado Mesa University building, at 245 S Cascade Ave in Montrose, room 100. You can enter from either the main entrance to the Montrose Library (then go left into the CMU building), or use the main CMU entrance on Cascade Ave.

For the December meeting, we will have a discussion about how to stay safe while shopping online, as well as tips for finding the best price on new Apple products this holiday season. If we have extra time, we'll talk about some our favorite new apps, both for your Mac and your "iDevices".

We will also have our usual troubleshooting discussion for anyone who may be having some sort of problem or issue with their computer. Please come and share your experiences, or simply enjoy an informative discussion about all things Macintosh, and beyond…

November meeting, 2019

The Black Canyon Macintosh User Group meets on the second Thursday of the month, which for November is the 14th, at 7 p.m. Starting this month, we have a new meeting location! We'll be meeting in the Colorado Mesa University building, at 245 S Cascade Ave in Montrose, room 100. The initial part of the meeting will be an introduction to the new meeting space Including how to sign in to the internet and how the classroom can be used. 

We will also have a discussion on what topics members would like to have presented, and how to get better member participation. Several members have asked for an overview of all the changes in the new operating systems for iPhone, iPad and Mac, so we'll cover that as well.

We will also have our usual troubleshooting discussion for anyone who may be having some sort of problem or issue with their computer. Please come and share your experiences, or simply enjoy an informative discussion about all things Macintosh, and beyond…

For this month's meeting, we will have a discussion about BCMUG's recent survey regarding the club's future. (Below is a link for the survey; please take the time to give your input on the clubs future!) Several members have asked about how to switch from using a laptop to only an iPad, so we will have a discussion about that as well. If you are using an iPad or iPhone please share your likes and dislikes on the iOS platform.

After taking the summer off, our meetings return in September, with one of our entertaining catch-all Q&A sessions. On top of the usual grab-bag of member questions, Apple will have just announced this year's new iPhone models (on Tuesday the 10th), so there should be plenty to talk about. Please join us if you can (John Clark will be back to lead the discussion)!

Be sure to bring the list of questions you’ve been saving up over the fall & early winter, and join us for a fun and free-wheeling gathering. Even if you don't have any questions of your own, we guarantee that you’ll learn something new!

Our April meeting will focus on the latest cord-cutting" options, including what we know so far about Apple's recently announced "Apple TV+". With the ever-increasing plethora of high-quality content available from services like Netflix, Hulu & Amazon Prime Video, many folks are opting to ditch their cable TV package (hence, cutting the cord), and switch to some combination of those options, and more. We'll do our best to give you all the info you need to decide whether or not the practice is something you should consider, so bring you questions, and your list of favorite shows!

The amount of phishing, scamming and numerous other online hoaxes has reached epidemic proportions, so it's never been more important to be as educated as possible about security issues as well as solutions to maintain our peace of mind. Come join in the discussion to learn more! (And this discussion is NOT just for Mac users!)
